Did 3 roasts yesterday with it and the SR800 with extension tube and chaff extender. The chaff extender dramatically increases air flow through the unit. This is good but you have to increase heat to make up for it.
Without the extender I would end up at 6 fan and 6 heat. With extender 6 fan and 8 heat (I use a thermocouple)
Without the extender the sr800 would clog quickly. No clogging with the extender.
I’m guessing it’s 3d printed but the materials seem very good!
It doesn’t make chaff emptying any different. But you have to remember to put the center baffle back in.
This has worked almost perfectly but I think the center ring could use some tweaking as it clogs with chaff on some roasts.
This is a great addition to the SR800 Roaster and it fits perfectly. I used it so I can install temperature probes to record the roasting profile in the Artisan software and this lid extension works perfect for that, especially since it already has 2 probe ports build in. They are plugged, but you can just push them out and install your probes and not have to damage the metal lid from the roaster. I used it several times now and it withstands the temperatures very nicely without and deformation or cracking. So if you need more headspace for chaff collecting and/or want to install temperature probes, this is a must have for the SR800 roaster.
Holds up in the heat. Helps with air flow and collection of more chaff during those natural process roasts. Fragile! It’s 3D printed high heat plastics so it will break if not handled with care. Seems like it could be priced a bit lower but I don’t kno what it costs to make or the R&D cost so …. just my opinion.
Can I say wow after a couple of roasts? I still might want a better roaster but after a year roasting with the SR800 I can honestly say I never perfected it and I’ve tried.
What I found with this extension is more control of the roast. The extension allows so much airflow that it seems more forgiving, it felt like moving from a ‘toaster oven’ to an ‘oven’, this allows a fine tuning so each temp you try to reach is more stable. It’s like a scale that measures to the 1/10 and now it’s to the 1/100. I could be blowing this out of proportion, I’ve only made a couple of roasts time will tell.
But if my first impression is correct this 40 dollar product just turned my roaster into a small little commercial power house, without needing a program like Artisan to achieve a great roast.
My recommendation is, for 40 dollars get it, don’t hesitate. If I’m wrong it’s such a small investment that you can’t afford not to try it.
I almost never give reviews that’s how impressed I am and I don’t know the company and haven’t been paid to give a review.
I’m making this review the same day of my first roast, I’ll know in a few days if the development of the roast is better but anyone whose really used the Fresh Roast knows it’s not an easy machine to perfect, I think this product can really help…Thumbs up Leafgreen I think Fresh Roast should look into your extension and perfect it by making it part of their machine
